You Don’t Eat MSG…Or Do You Without Realizing?

MSG or monosodium glutamate is an artificially created chemical made to mimic the naturally occurring amino acid glutamic acid that gives meats, fish, dairy and other foods their “umami” flavor. Studies have shown that the chemical MSG when used as an artificial flavor in foods is toxic and can cause headaches, food addictions, weight gain and diabetes. This brain and nervous system toxin (excitotoxin) is most dangerous for children because it overstimulates their developing brains and bodies, but it is in the highest quantities in packaged snacks that are consumed most by kids. Things like chips, canned soups, hot dogs and cold cuts are loaded with MSG.

MSG isn’t just in those kid-friendly food though. It is in most packaged foods under 100s of names. Here are just a few. Read the ingredients list on every packaged food and don’t buy it if it has any of these: yeast extract, autolyzed yeast, vegetable extract, textured protein, gelatin, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, hydrolyzed plant protein, autolyzed plant protein, glutamate, glutamic acid, sodium caseinate and (scariest of all) NATURAL FLAVOR.

Eliminate MSG to lose weight, feel better and be healthier.
